Do you pre heat your teacup or teapot (or gaiwan, chawan or whatever you use) before you make your tea?
I do it most of the time but sadly not all of the time
I don’t. My reasoning is that the water is so hot anyway so it will warm the mug.

It would be interesting to know how much the temperature differs between cold and heated mugs.

Okay. Try to measure temperature a couple of times. In the beginning they probably are almost the same.
