My electric kettle is broken

I don't know how I will survive the next couple of weeks. My electric kettle is broken so I have to cook my water for my Tea on the stove. It's hard since I cant find my thermometer so I can only drink black Tea and pu-erh.

We are also moving soon so we don't have the money to buy a new one. And even if I did, good electric kettles do not grow on trees.

But I'n trying to see on the brigt side, it's less to move.

I have some electric kettles on my mind, one at my local coffeeshop for 1700SEK but I won't have any money for that anytime soon so I might have to buy a cheaper one for now.

How long do you survive without your electric kettle?

What type of Tea do you need to drink at a certain temperature? I've never thought about the temperature of my water.

#1 Green teas is normally best somewere between 70 och 80 degrees Celsius. But some can go as low as 40 and some as high as 90.

Yellow teas and white teas is normally best between 70 and 80 too

and Oolong 80-90 (some as high as 100 though.

Black teas ar best in 95-100 and pu-er and tisanes (herbal teas) are best at 100.

So most teas should be less than 100

I'll be honest, I didn't even know there was a difference between kettles, other than aesthetic. What things can a more expensive kettle do?

#3 the most importent for me is that you can change what temperature the water is in. Then there is features like if you can keep the water at that temperature for a long time. And material and size matters too but that is not Always different in different prize ranges

Off topic but still little bit relevant. You should not even use 100 degrees for coffee but around 93 degrees #5 that is quite common. And that put quite a few People off green Tea.

My kettle makes the water too hot and doesn’t hold enough water, but it is decent looking. I always try to stop the kettle before it starts getting too hot. It has a temperature gauge, which goes in twenty degree increments up to 100. But I like to stop it at 80.

#15 ok, I'll watch it later. Yes hot baverages is one risk factor for cancer in the throat, but under 70 degrees it's safe and most People in sweden never drink Tea that hot. Here the biggest risk for that kind of cancer is alcohol.

In short, Sugru is moldable silicone that you can use for fixing things. I can stand heat and cold.

There are two varieties. One of them is considered kid safe. It takes a little longer to cure. I would use it on the outside of the kettle if possible.

#20 It's not possible, the hole is in the inside of the "Window". If it gives of taste is also very important for me, I can't try out new teas for my shop if the water is bad.
