On this day

On this day in 1952 Tea rationing ended! After 12 years of rationing, Brit’s would be allowed to enjoy unlimited cuppas for the first time after the war. Today brits drink 60 billion cups of Tea a year, that’s more than 900 cups per person.

Sounds like they have made up for those lost 12 years many times over. Do you know why it took so long after the war to end rationing?

In the end of 1951 coffee rationing ended in Sweden.
Luckily, we had relatives in the USA.

#1 The simple answer I believe is that the UK couldn't afford to pay for imports due to lack of exports but if you want to find out more this article discusses our relationship with the USA, by the sounds of it, the USA was both helpful and unhelpful at the same time.

Thanks, there seems to have been a couple of reasons. What is lend-lease?

#4 Lend-lease what a term to account for any material, food and services supplied by the U.S to its allies during World War II under an act of Congress.
